Tumaini Timbwani School
Tumaini: Hope, Trust, Confidence
Tumaini is a Kiswahili word that holds a powerful three-part meaning: Hope, Trust, and Confidence. At Tumaini, our mission is to prepare young people to reach their full potential.
We inspire them through Hope, Trust, and Confidence, encouraging them to use their skills, knowledge, and dedication to build a better future — for themselves, their communities, their country, and the world.
Tumaini Timbwani Nursery and Primary School opened its doors on 12th January 2004. In May 2004, children moved into the newly built Children’s Home. In January 2006, Tumaini Timbwani High School was launched, offering quality education through the secondary level.
We are committed to providing quality education to underprivileged children in a secure, supportive environment that fosters learning and growth.
Thanks to generous sponsors and some parents, we are making significant progress — but many children are still waiting for a sponsor. Your sponsorship could change a child’s life. Visit OUR SPONSORSHIP PAGE to learn how you can help a child today.
Each sponsored child receives:
- A nutritious daily lunch
- School uniforms
- Access to textbooks and learning materials
- Additional reading resources and stationery

Pre-primary
The Pre-Primary School began in February 2002 with 60 children and two teachers. With support from Lightforce International, a small hall was rented, and a mixed-age afternoon class was introduced. The class included children aged 3 to 12 who had missed out on nursery education, posing a significant challenge for the teachers due to the wide age range.
In January 2004, the school relocated to Tumaini. It now offers Pre-Primary classes—PP1 and PP2—each accommodating about 40 children.
Primary School
Children at Tumaini thrive in a caring and supportive environment but depend on the generosity of sponsors to continue their education, building a solid foundation for their future.
Children start primary school at age 6 in Grade 1. They take national assessments in Grade 3 and again at the end of Grade 6 to monitor their progress. After completing Grade 6, they move on to Grade 7, which marks the beginning of Junior Secondary School.
At Tumaini Timbwani Primary, we employ qualified Kenyan teachers who dedicate themselves to creating engaging, resourceful learning activities. Our goal is to offer an environment where children grow into confident young adults, prepared to face the challenges within our community and the wider nation.

Junior Secondary and High School
Tumaini Timbwani High School opened its doors in January 2006, beginning with approximately 60 students across two classes.
Today, Tumaini Timbwani High School accommodates a complete set of students from Forms 1 to 4, along with Junior Secondary Grades 7 and 8. Each class consists of 40 students who are steadily working toward their National Examinations. Successful candidates may qualify for university admission, apply for college courses, or enter the workforce.
Our goal is to provide not only strong academic learning but also practical subjects like agriculture and home science.
