Grace Adeka, former student of Tumaini Timbwani is open for business, thanks to generous donations.

Since finishing high school, Grace has been seeking employment; she managed to find odd jobs here and there, but nothing that could sustain her. Whilst looking for work, Grace was also researching the needs of the new area she lives in and discovered the need for a shop selling “everybody’s daily needs!” There are many new homes in the area and the place Grace chose to set up a business is “on the way home” for many people.

When Grace took us to see the area, we could see the potential custom; the lack of competition at this time; the preparation she’d done, in researching what the local ladies need to buy, to make the products they sell for a living and then we met her landlady, Mama Margaret. Margaret is a wonderful, compassionate lady who has taken Grace under her wing; she agreed to help her to begin her business; despite the problems she encounters in her own family. Margaret’s grandson is 7 years old and was paralysed from birth, he’s able to respond to sound and touch but unable to move or sit unaided. The income that will come from renting shop space to Grace will greatly assist Margaret’s family. It’s a circle of hope!

Initially Grace was selling cereals, sugar, tealeaves, flavourings, cooking oil and fats, wheat flour, maize flour, washing powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes and much more and when the fundi’s have finished the carpentry, she’ll also begin a green grocery section. We visited twice last week and witnessed several customers being served with a very friendly, happy smile. Thank you!
