Does this remind you of anything? On Thursday 25th November we had our school closing day celebrations. Each class performed songs, dances, dramas and poems – it was excellent and parent’s enjoyed the fun and colour of the day.

The grand finale, however, was Tumaini’s musical, based on the story of The Lion King. Our costumes came from far and wide, Maureen spent days and days making ears, manes and tails in England and some costumes came all the way from Canada.

Thank you to everyone for all your hard work – the choir sang beautifully and our cast portrayed fantastic personality.  A lot of fun was had by all! At the end of their play students got together and danced, still in their costumes – they must’ve been so hot! I think everyone was amazed by the realistic giraffe – we’ll let you figure out how that was made!

So Maureen! What’s next?

Workshops

Friday, November 19th, 2010

We thought it would be nice to show you what goes on behind the scenes. We are hoping that sometime next year we will be able to start apprenticeship schemes for Carpentry, Mechanics and Electricians, this will obviously take a huge investment. We are firm believers in starting with what you have. Our Carpenters (Mtavi and Nasib) were given the job of making windows and door frames for the Half Way House Project, so we thought it would be a good time to use some materials we already had; some expertise we had on site for the building and add a little extra to make our first workshop.

In the new year we hope to start with an after school woodwork class and then progress to a full scale apprenticeship scheme. We have identified a piece of land for permanent workshops and will update you as we have more information.

Thanks Xx Glyn & Janey

Hi from a very hot and humid Mombasa, we prayed for rain and it’s rained for at least an hour each day this week. It’s great for the roof slab but not so good for the humidity level which is really high!

Amazingly inside the house feels really cool, the rooms have a good height and the air flow is amazing, acting like one big cooling fan, I think we have an inspired design. Mr Njagi is pictured to the left in the first of our fully plastered rooms, only 21 more to go! Below is Philip who is in charge of the site, showing off the new roof slab and thinking, maybe it can go to a third floor!

So what else is going on? Our Std 8 pupils have now completed their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams and our Form 4 students will complete their exams on Tuesday. The rest of the school will then sit their end of year exams and then prepare presentations and a great musical, ready for parents day on the 25th.

We hope you have a great weekend. Xx Glyn & Jane

It only seems like a few weeks ago that we were preparing to concrete the 1st floor slab and now we are ready to concrete the roof slab.

Over the last few days a huge amount of steel has been lifted onto the roof and set in place using a team of very skilled steel fitters. Our own electricians have also been busy placing all the electrical conduits needed so we are now ready for an early start on Saturday.

We have hired in a special concrete lift and mixer along with a team of specialists who will start at around 7am and work until the job is complete.

After my update a couple of weeks ago I received a few comments about the lack of sea view I mentioned, so not to disappoint; below is the amazing roof top view.

Thanks again for checking in on us.
