The rain came as we needed but then decided to stay! We have had heavy rain now for 6 days but amazingly we have managed to raise some of the walls to head height (on a tall person) and set a few courses of blocks for the other rooms. You can actually walk in and out of all the ground floor rooms now.

The new home is called “Stepping Stone” as it will house people in need of short term accommodation while they get their life on track.

We are standing on the first stepping stone, would you like to make the next step with us?

The picture below shows our progress and as funds become available we will carry on, but for now the work has stopped.

Thanks for helping get to our first stepping stone.

Early Start!

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

So the day to lay the foundation slab finally arrived! It’s all hands on deck as we started at 7am mixing the sand, cement and concrete (as it’s known in Mombasa!)

We had over 50 men on site who work non stop until the job is complete, we used almost 100 bags of cement so it’s no easy job. The slab is now complete so we are praying for a wet weekend. Water is needed so that the slab will dry at a constant rate and therefore not crack, on a normal day in Mombasa the slab would need to be watered almost constantly for a few days.

I will upload some completed photos and update on our progress next week.

Thanks Xx Glyn & Jane
