It’s been an exciting week as we put the finishing touches to Jiwe la kuvikia (Stepping Stone) and made it ready for people to move in.
The first to move in were 5 young people from our home who have all finished at Tumaini High School and are over 18 years old. There was a lot of excitement as the younger children from the home helped the older ones move their stuff after they had enthusiastically searched through our container for useful household goods. Thanks to Footsteps International we were able to give each young person a budget to buy essential items for setting up home and it was really interesting to see what was important to each of them, one buying floor covering while another bought nice bed linen, as well as the usual pots, pans, plates and spoons!
The Mtavi’s and Nelly have also taken up residence at “Jiwe” to help oversee and generally keep an eye on the young people; but we have to say they were as excited as the young ones!
After church many who didn’t make the official opening on Friday were wandering around the building in amazement!
Thanks once again to all of you who have made this possible. It’s hard to put into words how much this means to all those who will be living there. As I write this already all the upstairs rooms are occupied and 2 rooms downstairs – looks like we might need to go for a 2nd Storey!!!
Thanks and God bless Xx Glyn, Jane & Maureen
